Calvin "Pick" Pickering is a former Major League first baseman and designated hitter who spent 15 years in professional baseball — including five MLB campaigns with the Baltimore Orioles, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, and Kansas City Royals.

Drafted by Baltimore in 1995 out of Tampa, Pickering tore through the minors as one of the organization's top power prospects, earning rookie-level Player of the Year honors and mashing his way to a big-league debut at just 21 years old.

His first two Major League home runs? Off David Cone and Pedro Martínez — two of the most dominant pitchers of the era. His pro journey later took him to Korea's KBO League and the Mexican League, giving him a hitting education few coaches anywhere can match.

Drafted by the Baltimore Orioles

Selected out of Tampa, Florida in the 1995 MLB Draft — the start of a 15-year pro career.

1996

Breakout in the minors

Hit .325 with 18 home runs and 66 RBI at Bluefield, earning rookie-level Player of the Year recognition in the Orioles system.

1998

MLB debut at 21

Called up by Baltimore on September 12, 1998. Soon after, he took David Cone and Pedro Martínez deep for his first two big-league homers.

2001

Reds & Red Sox

Suited up for both Cincinnati and Boston, adding National League and AL East experience to his résumé.

2004–05

Kansas City power surge

Returned to the Majors with the Royals as a first baseman and designated hitter, capping a five-season MLB career.

2006+

Going global

Took his bat to the SK Wyverns of Korea's KBO League and to the Mexican League — then turned all of it into a coaching career developing the next wave of hitters.
